Sclerotherapy
About
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat small varicose veins and spider veins by injecting a solution into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and gradually fade. It is commonly performed for cosmetic and medical reasons.
A specialised sclerosing agent (such as saline or polidocanol) is injected into the vein.
The solution irritates the vein walls, causing them to stick together and seal shut.
Over time, the closed vein is absorbed by the body and fades from view.
Blood is naturally rerouted to healthier veins.

Consultation
A consultation for past or current vein issues (varicose veins, spider veins, clotting disorders).
Personal and family medical history (circulatory problems, diabetes, heart disease).
Medications & supplements (especially blood thinners, aspirin, or hormonal therapy).
Previous vein treatments (if any).
Pregnancy or breastfeeding status (sclerotherapy is not recommended during this time).
Benefits
Sclerotherapy is a popular and effective treatment for spider veins and varicose veins. Here are the key benefits:
1. Improves Appearance
Reduces or eliminates visible spider veins and varicose veins, leading to smoother, clearer skin.
Enhances leg aesthetics, increasing confidence in wearing shorts, skirts, or swimsuits.
2. Relieves Symptoms of Varicose Veins
Helps reduce leg pain, swelling, cramping, and heaviness caused by damaged veins.
Improves blood circulation, preventing further complications.
3. Minimally Invasive & Quick Procedure
Non-surgical—only small injections are needed.
Sessions take 15–45 minutes, with no need for anesthesia.
4. Fast Recovery & Minimal Downtime
Patients can walk immediately after treatment—no long recovery period.
Most return to normal activities the same day, though heavy exercise should be avoided for a few days.
5. Long-Lasting Results
Once treated, veins do not return, though new ones may develop over time.
Results appear within 3–6 weeks for smaller veins and 3–4 months for larger ones.

Procedure
Consultation – A vein specialist evaluates your veins and medical history.
Avoid Certain Medications – No aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood thinners 24–48 hours before treatment (unless advised by your doctor).
Wear Loose Clothing – Comfortable clothing allows easy access to the treatment area.
No Lotion or Moisturiser – Keep the skin clean and dry.
Patient Positioning – You lie down with legs slightly elevated.
Cleansing – The treatment area is cleaned and sterilised.
Injection of Sclerosing Agent
A fine needle injects a sclerosing solution (e.g., polidocanol or saline) into the vein. The solution irritates the vein walls, causing them to collapse and close.
Multiple Injections – Several veins may be treated in one session.
Massage & Compression – Gentle massage prevents blood pooling, and compression bandages may be applied.
